Among the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), animal welfare aims to cultivate global civic consciousness through campaigns and various educational programs. However, the reinforcement of animal protection behavior using virtual reality (VR) content, regarded as an effective educational training tool, remains inadequately validated. Particularly, the cultivation of animal protection awareness through virtual pet games is an under-researched crucially linked to the business sustainability. Hence, this study aims to analyze the impact of virtual pet games on animal protection behavior and empirically verifies the relevance between animal protection behavior, the intention for sustained use of virtual pet games, and their application in social innovation education. Utilizing the experience economy model, the study examines the influence of player satisfaction and game usage intention on entertainment and aesthetics, as well as differences among player types. The provision of experiential elements of entertainment and aesthetics, tailored to player types, positively influences the sustained effects of the game. The empirical evidence demonstrates the positive impact of virtual pet game experiences and satisfaction on animal protection behavior, underscoring the need for an expanded application of social innovation education.
