This study aimed to investigate the advantages and characteristics of toys through literature, identify the characteristics of puzzle toys, and propose design alternatives with improved disadvantages of existing wooden puzzles from the viewpoint of producers and consumers. As a result of this study, first, the problem from the producer's point of view is that due to the nature of wood, it contracts and expands depending on the environment, and in the case of a plate, it is difficult to standardize the product because the thickness is different even in one sheet. In addition, when processing wood, in the case of laser, the degree of burning of wood is different, and there is a problem in post-processing, and the cutting process has difficulty due to the wear of cutting tools. Second, the problem from the consumer's point of view is that when children users complete a product with a puzzle, they complete it by looking at the instruction manual, but there are cases where they lose interest in play due to difficulties in this. In addition, due to the nature of wooden puzzles, the connection part wears out, which causes a safety problem due to play. By improving the wooden puzzle connection part to solve these problems, producers can easily standardize the product to help smooth production, and consumers can complete the product by matching the colors of the puzzle grooves and connecting them without instructions. The product is prevented from abrasion by using different materials for the puzzle groove, and it is fixed to the wood with its form and elasticity of the connecting parts of the puzzle groove, so harmful substances such as adhesives are not used. As a future task of this study, it is necessary to study wood-cutting surfaces to reduce the post-processing of wood, and it is expected that this paper will help develop wood puzzles.
