The purpose of this article is to examine the mechanism in which the Prince of Yeongchin worked in the dynamic network surrounding Korea, Japan, and Koreans in Japan during the colonial period, focusing on the diplomatic documents related to Lee Eun, the last prince of Joseon, who was taken hostage to Japan in 1907. As a result, Kim Eul-han, a journalist who acquired Japanese citizenship, explained the reason and necessity of his return to Korea. However, Kim Eul-han and British prince's interruption and arbitrary choices are mixed. In addition, King Yeongchin's return, which took place 18 years after liberation, can be interpreted as sharing the same political ideology as the Syngman Rhee regime's opposition to the return to the country in political terms, in that it was made as a “symbol” before public consensus was formed.
