Junichirō Tanizaki's Sasameyuki constructs an asymmetric world of traditional aesthetics and future anxiety. On the other hand, the novel ominously imagines the collapse of Japan. Tanizaki started writing Sasameyuki in 1943, during the war and completed it after the defeat. However, he did not include any information about the 'war' in the novel. Furthermore, the text only describes the aesthetic material of everyday life. In a situation where the people suffer from war, a peaceful annual event has written in the novel.
This ordinary daily life was made possible by excluding war as a blank. Nevertheless, this novel repeatedly foreshadows ominousness or reveals anxiety about the future. This ominousness is inflated due to the blank of war and represents Japan's modern daily life.
This study analyzed the context of the times by the sense of reality from the text through the issues of asymmetric structure, everyday life, the aesthetics of the ordinary, the war drawn with blanks, and deconstruction and anxiety. Through this, this novel criticizes 'nation.'
