This study summarizes and clarifies what was revealed when approaching the problematic translation of Korean-Japanese literature during the Japanese colonial era in Tokyo, Japan. In particular, focusing on volume 3, we analyzed the original language of the work, who the translator was, the quality of translation and editing, and what kind of translation interventions were applied in the original work in Japanese. Through this comprehensive analysis, we attempted to clearly understand the situation of Korean-Japanese literature in the Japanese colonial era.
Until now, this publication has been perceived as the result of literary exchanges between the two countries, which were created to bring attention to Joseon literature in Tokyo at a time when the so-called “Joseon Boom” was occurring in Japan. However, if you analyze the “problematic” translation of Korean-Japanese literature that appeared in a special situation in Japanese colonial era, you can grasp what the topographic map of Korean-Japanese literature was like at that time. In other words, this publication was fundamentally approached as a collection of translated novels through which we investigated the issue of translated books and analyzed the interventions in translations by reference to contemporary research.
