Background
As the structure of society changes due to the aging of the population, government-led care for the elderly focusing on specialized institutions and professionals is approaching qualitative and quantitative limits, and community care centered around the local community is emerging as an alternative. The number of elderly living in multi-family housing is on the rise because of the convenience in managing the household and the decrease in the population of agricultural and fishing villages. Although elderly housing is at the center of home care, most multi-family housing is designed for the general population.
Methods
This study started with basic research to prepare certification standards for community care by identifying the requirements needed for realizing welfare for the elderly based on the barrier-free living certification system, which is evaluated as the most well-organized quantitative barrier-free standard to date. Building Information Modeling (BIM) was used to establish and evaluate the information system of data operation.
Results
The data for certification criteria that determine whether the content of barrier-free housing was applied to home renovation was extracted and defined as a BIM object. The suitability of barrier-free certification was evaluated by gathering BIM information on the indoor space of the type of residential unit that is most common in general multi-family housing before evaluating and grading. As a result of the evaluation, it was found that general multi-family housing where the elderly currently reside requires massive housing renovations, particularly bathroom remodeling.
Conclusion
The barrier-free living environment implementation process using BIM, which was proposed in this study, can manage the renovation process of general multi-family housing in an integrated manner, and furthermore, even extract information needed for implementing the process, such as extracting construction details and drawings. In addition, by utilizing the benefits of BIM, which allows non-face-to-face remote certification and examination, it is possible to establish a database based on the degree of disability and characteristics of the elderly.
