This study is about the 'participation' of the local community in the urban regeneration project of Changsin·Soongin area in Seoul. This area is evaluated as relatively well-participated by residents among the areas designated as a leading model for Seoul’s urban regeneration. In the urban regeneration process, the details of the four stages: preparation stage, planning stage - project implementation stage - self-regeneration stage were observed according to the type of stakeholder’s participation. In addition, the prominent roles and contents of the related subjects were closely examined. Through the analysis, it was confirmed that ① the active participation of residents from the beginning of the project, ② the establishment of a resident-led urban regeneration cooperative, and ③ the cooperative relationship between the public-government-industry-academia were new paradigm for a sustainable local community of future urban regeneration projects. The participation for sustainable local communities derived through this study is that the policy direction for urban regeneration should be directly participated by local residents from the itial stage and urban regeneration should be carried out centering on the local community.
