The purpose of this study was to suggest effective therapeutic interventions for patients with schizophrenia by comprehensively analyzing the literature on the effectiveness of cognitive-behavioral therapy programs for such patients. To this end, we conducted a meta-analysis of 15 peer-reviewed journal articles published from 2010 to 2020, which were chosen through a systematic review using the Comprehensive Meta-Analysis (CMA) software. The main study findings were as follows: First, the effect size of cognitive-behavioral therapy programs for patients with schizophrenia was 0.625, a medium level. Second, when the number of program sessions was over 10 but less than 20, the effect size was at a medium level (0.709). Third, when the frequency of the programs was twice a week, the effect size was at a high level (0.841). Fourth, the results of a meta-analysis of the comparison in the effect size by program contents show that when the dependent variable was anxiety, the effect size was big, and when the dependent variables were dysfunctional attitudes and behaviors, communications, life satisfaction, interpersonal relationships, and self-esteem, the effect size was medium. However, no statistically significant difference was found in the means of effect size for those variables. Based upon these results, this study specifically discussed the development and implementation of cognitive-behavioral therapy programs for the improvement of therapeutic interventions for patients with schizophrenia.
