Under the rule of Japanese Imperialism, the Korean almanac published by the Japanese Government-General of Korea was used as a messenger and auxiliary device for colonial policy and guidelines. This fact is not only on the cover of the Korean almanac since the 1920s and in the overall contents of each month, but also in the more detailed summaries of the subjects covered by these guidelines. Therefore, this study focused on the appendix of the Korean almanac that was used to implement Japanese colonial rule and examined its contents in relation to the various colonial management guidelines described each month. As a result, it was found that the 1920s were used as a tool to strengthen the governance system by providing information such as real-life statistics, administration, and military deployment, the 1930s to change the consciousness of Koreans around a full-fledged war system, and the 1940s to rule the Koreans.
The Korean almanac was closely related to the industry based on the operation of celestial bodies; therefore, it was a significant benefit that the state could give to individuals during the monarchy. However, the Korean almanac implemented during the Japanese colonial period has a flaw in that it reveals the character of the guidelines for colonial rule.
