This study analyzes the form of Shinbutsushūgō shown in the spiritual stories of Kannonreijyouki from the perspective of dominance of divinity.
The forms of Shinbutsushūgō shown in the spiritual stories of Kannonreijyouki may be summarized in 3 parts. First, the Avalokitesvara in Buddhism is recognized as a divinity higher than the god in Shinto. This is decidedly affected by the fact that Kannonreijyouki is a book of folk stories to transfer the spiritual experience of pilgrimage of Avalokitesvara.
Second, the spiritual stories in Kannonreijyouki are often developed in the folk narrative structure in which a super natural rescue of people by Avalokitesvara is assisted by Shinto god in terms of dominance between Avalokitesvara in Buddhism and god in Shinto.
Third, although there are no many cases found, the god in Shinto sometimes become a target located opposite to the Buddhist god and a thing to be terminated from the perspective of Buddhism. This shows that after Buddhism was transferred to Japan, the conflict occurred between the Shintoism and Buddhism was reflected on the folk narrative while Shinbutsushūgō was yet taken root in Japan.
