Most South Korean firms have renewed their corporate identity(CI) since the mid-1990s for the sake of economic globalization. Unfortunately, however, they have failed to recognize the meaning and importance of the intangible assets they have created. As an effective medium to project the firm’s identity, visions, and goals, the CI is an important visual object that can be established through a long-term relationship with customers. In that regard, this study explores how the advanced corporations in Germany have executed the CI renewals from the perspective of design management strategies and argues that the corporate CI renewal stage should consider the consistency and continuity to inherit the corporate images that have been created. This study, in particular, considers the implications of the consequences of more than century-long CI renewals in long-lived German firms, such as Bayer, BASF, Pelikan, Opel and AEG. For that purpose, the second section utilizes survey and evaluation tools to draw design implication results from these firms’ CI renewal processes and compare them. Through this, it is confirmed that the consistency of the image is a critical principle to the firm’s CI renewals.
