이 연구는 저소득층 재개발지역에서 근무한 교사의 이야기를 통해 빈곤 유아를 가르치는교사의 교육 실천 경험을 탐색하는 것을 목적으로 한다. 이 연구를 위해 연구의 배경이 되는Place E에서 약 4개월간 관찰하였고, 이후 연구 참여자인 교사와 4개월 동안 주 1회 총 12회면담을 나누었다. 교사는 낯선 공간 Place E에서 문화 간 심리적 거리를 경험하지만, 충분한관찰과 이해를 바탕으로 현실을 파악함으로써 Place E에 적합한 교육을 실천해간다. 교사는점차 공동체와의 연대를 통해 지지와 격려를 받는 한편, Place E의 사회구조적 요인으로 인한 교육 실천의 한계를 경험하면서 교사의 역할과 소명에 대해 고민하는 모습을 보여준다. 이 이야기를 통해 빈곤 유아를 가르치는 교사의 경험과 어려움이 무엇인지 이해하고 이를 위한 인식 및 제도적 개선의 방향을 모색해볼 수 있다.
The purpose of this study is to explore the educational practice experience of teachers who teach poor children through the story of a teacher who worked in a low-income redevelopment area. For this study, participant observation was performed about 4 months in Place E. afterwards a kindergarten teacher participated in total of 12 interviews once a week for 4 months. As a result of the study, the teacher experiences the psychological distance between cultures in an unfamiliar space, Place E and her’s cultures, but she manages to practice proper education suitable for Place E by grasping reality based on sufficient observation and understanding. The teacher gradually receives support and encouragement through solidarity with the community, while facing the limitations of educational practice due to the structural factors of Place E ‘s society. During this, she tends to contemplate deeply about the role and calling given to teachers. Through this story, we can understand the experiences and difficulties that a teacher faces when teaching children suffering from poverty. Also, we will be able to seek ways to raise awareness and improve institutional policies.
