An almanac that implemented in modern Korea, was a basic device for Japan’s colonization of the Korean Peninsula and a device for the unification of time.
For Japan, its first foreign/diplomatic policy in the mid-to late 19th centry was the colonization if the Korean Peninsula. For this purpose, the most important thing was the almanac, in other words, conversion to solar calendar. It was intended to make Chosun realize that it is completely out of its territory in China, and make it easier to colonize the Korean Peninsular through the ‘unification of the time system’ with its own country. Japan tried to absorb Chosun’s time into its own time, and promoted a major innovation in almanac as a basic mechanism for future colonization. It was carried out sequentially in the process of changing from 「Chiheonseo(時憲書)」 to 「Chiheonryeok(時憲曆)」 of the Geonyang period, and 「Chiheonryeok」 to 「Myeongsiryeok(明時曆)」 of the Gwangmu period, and then completed in the 「Ryeok(曆)」 of the Yoonghui period led by the Residency-General.
It was immediately reflected in the 「Chosun Minryeok(朝鮮民曆)」 which was complied under the supervision of the Government-General of Chosun when immediately after the merger. The Ryeok implemented at the end of the Korean Empire was the result of Japan’s long-standing efforts to establish a system for colonial rule of the Korean Peninsula. As a result, the transition to the full-fledged colonial almanac, the 「Chosun Minryeok」 became easier, and based on this, ‘unification of the time system’ was completed.19世紀の後半、日本において最も優先された対外政策は、朝鮮半島の植民地化した。
