Background : It is expected that the wearable products will be produced in a direction in which the familiar wearable items and wearable functions are connected to each other in the first generation of the wearable market. The Hearables is a wearable product for sound reproduction and is expected to grow into a major product in the wearable market in the future. As eyewear wearable products such as HMD and AR glasses are developed, research on Hearables’s design guidelines and user experience evaluation is required.
Methods : This research is about the user experience evaluation factor for Hearables products focusing on the first generation Zungle Panther, which is a glasses-type wearable Hearables. This study explored the characteristics of glasses-type wearable products, the characteristics of Hearables, and the characteristics of the bone conduction speaker built into the jungle fencer. Then an expert meeting was executed for extracting usability evaluation elements for glasses type wearable Hearables. Through this, 27 usability evaluation elements were extracted for the final experiment based on Peter Morville’s Honeycomb usability model. For actual user experiments and final 8 user experience evaluation elements of Hearables were reclassified and summarized.
Result : The finalized evaluation elements were Useful, Usable, Desirable, Findable, Accessible, Credible, Valuable. And Audible element was added as experiences related to sound reproduction and a questionnaire for survey and interview was developed. In order to conduct a pilot research on this, 5 users who had experience using HMD or glasses-type wearable products were asked to use Zungle Panther products in their daily lives for one day, and then an in-depth interview was conducted after a user experience evaluation of 5-point scale on Hearables and the factors for evaluating user experience were analyzed.
Conclusion : It seemed to be more sensitive to the wearing and design-related experience than the functional experience and usabilities of the product. In consideration of the characteristics of the wearable medium, evaluation factors for product design and psychological experience should be supplemented and quantitative research should be supplemented in follow-up research. It is necessary to develop a Hearables design guideline and usability evaluation model that can be applied to future eyewear-type wearable products based on the follow-up research.
