This study discusses about film magazines in the 1950s that had sought for the identity in film criticism and had covered its directivity through which many movie specializing media were launched following the Korean War. Focusing specifically on movie media that began to be issued in the mid-1950s when Korean film begins to be revived, the identity and stature are pursued that the film magazines in the same period have amidst the contemporary film world and the movie media history. For this, the major trends of the film magazines in the 1950s are examined the formation in critics group, the activation in contributions from readers, the expansion in the readers participation space, and the function as the readers educational resource. And due to judging that the movement of trying to destroy a distance between film celebrities and readers with emphasizing the importance of a movie fan, this is linked with the identity of film magazine in those days. However, a role as film journalism that the movie magazine had failed to complete with having possessed a character of both the popular press and the film paper, which had appeared everywhere following the war, goes on to Yŏnghwayesul (『Cinematic Arts』, 1965). Nevertheless, the magazine in the 1950s was a place in which the readers' comments had the most powerful influence to which the film specializing magazine had not attached importance after this. This was what shows a characteristic of film journalism in the period of the Korean film restoration in which the boundary between film industry workers and fans·readers had not been clear.
