This paper examines determinants of the leakage of personal information from social networking services. We focus on two networking factors across different social networking services: openness and online-offline overlap. Openness encourages the spread of personal information, and overlapping relations between online and offline promote the combination of scattered pieces of information. Also, we pay attention to the number of friends and the experience of cyber-bullying as attributes of users. For the empirical analysis, we used data from the National Youth Policy Institute's cross-sectional survey concerning young people's usage of social media in 2012. We explored determinants of two dependent variables: the leakage of user's own personal information and that of others. Results are as follows: First, we found that different networking services such as Cyworld's Minihompy, Me2day, Twitter, Facebook and KakaoTalk have different effects on the two types of leakage. Particularly, having high levels of both openness and online-offline overlap, Minihompy and Facebook exhibit higher odds of leakage of users' personal information than other services. Second, the significance of the number of friends suggests possibly unintended leakage of personal information. Third, the experience of cyber-bullying which shows the highest effects on both types of information leakage could be a practically important factor in regard to information leakage from social networking services.
