This paper aims to examine the differences of Manchu sentences shown in Manwen Laodang 滿文老檔 and Manzhou Shilu 滿洲實錄, which give us a view of the Manchu language in the Early Qing Dynasty, and thereby to investigate the cause of differences. The main differences are as follows:
1) In Manzhou Shilu 滿洲實錄, some sentences are omitted or abbreviated compared to those of Manwen Laodang, and the order of sentences is corrected in case where the sentences are out of order in Manwen Laodang 滿文老檔.
2) There are instances in Manzhou Shilu 滿洲實錄 where words are added or substituted to communicate the meaning of sentence written in Manwen Laodang 滿文老檔 more clearly, or where incorrect usage of a particular word in Manwen Laodang 滿文老檔 is corrected.
3) Paragraphs that consist of enumerated sentences in Manwen Laodang are written in a single sentence in Manzhou Shilu 滿洲實錄. A group of closed short sentences in Manwen Laodang 滿文老檔 is often realized as a chain of phrases connected by converb endings in Manzhou Shilu 滿洲實錄. These seem to have resulted from the difference of narrative style in two literatures.
4) There are instances where case makers which do not appear in Manwen Laodang 滿文老檔 are used in Manzhou Shilu 滿洲實錄. In some cases, Manwen Laodang 滿文老檔 and Manzhou Shilu 滿洲實錄 adopt different case markers to describe the same events. This difference comes from the dissimilar sentence structures of two literatures.
5) In connecting the sentences, Manwen Laodang 滿文老檔 often uses gerunds, and then uses the verb stem and converb ending again, while Manzhou Shilu 滿洲實錄 connects verb stems and converb endings without using gerunds.
6) In some cases, Manwen Laodang 滿文老檔 tends to repeat a description of an event that is mentioned right before the sentence. However, Manzhou Shilu 滿洲實錄 does not.
7) Manzhou Shilu 滿洲實錄 corrects the agreement errors shown in Manwen Laodang 滿文老檔.
