본 연구의 초점은 고대 그리스식 멀리뛰기와 현대의 멀리뛰기에서 차이점을 보이고 있는 할테레스에 관하여 ‘왜 고대 그리스인들은 멀리뛰기 시 할테레스라는 돌을 사용하였는가?’를 고찰한 결과는 다음과 같다. 첫째, 고대 그리스식 멀리뛰기는 도움닫기와 할테레스를 이용한 불연속적인 다중도약이었을 것으로 판단하였다. 둘째, 고대 그리스 올림픽의 멀리뛰기 경기에서 다양한 형태의 할테레스가 사용되었던 이유는 고대 그리스 운동에서의 아레테, 즉 신체적인 탁월성의 추구와 인간한계에의 도전 등과 같은 스포츠의 본질적인 특성에 기인하여 다양한 크기와 무게의 할테레스가 사용되었던 것으로 해석된다. 셋째, 고대그리스 시대 멀리뛰기 시 할테레스의 사용 목적은 2가지 이유로써 기록 신장의 목적과 비행과 착지의 균형유지의 역할 때문이라고 결론하였다.The point of this study was to consider that why ancient Greek used stones called 'Halteres' when they did long jump. The results are same as following. First, ancient Greek long jump was a discontinuous multiplex spring with an approach run and Halteres. Second, the reason of using of Halteres in ancient olympic long jump was analyzed that using various size and weight of Halteres which is due to essential characteristics of sport that Arete in ancient Greek sport such as that persuade physical prominence and challenge the limitation of human faculty. Third, the purpose of using Halteres when doing the broad jumping in ancient Greek is two reason, one is purpose of extension of record and the other is maintaining balance of flying and landing.
