This study examines whether the management of both earnings loss avoidance firms and earnings decrease avoidance firms manage to inflate their reported earnings, and if it has been happened, investigates the relative relations between earnings management and accounting conservatism after IMF period(1999∼2005). The empirical results are summarized as follows. First, all the earnings loss avoidance firms that nondiscretionary earnings is loss, but reported earnings is profit or all the earnings decrease avoidance firms that nondiscretionary earnings is less than reported earnings in a prior year of current reported earnings, but current reported earnings is more than reported earnings in a prior year manage to inflate earnings through discretionary accruals, which is consistent with our expectation. And secondly, especially, they are lower than the matched samples(firms) in the relative level(magnitude) of accounting conservatism. This implies that the relative level of accounting conservatism might have influence on earnings management. Especially, the earnings management of the firms of earnings that converted positive in current period are consistently positive with accounting conservatism.
