In this study, we investigated the correlaiton between the activation time and activated carbon fiber properties. Activated carbon fibers (ACFs) were prepared using polyimide (PI) precursor. The pore characteristics of PI-based ACFs were controlled by activation conditions.
The texture properties of manufactured PI-based ACFs were studied by Brunauer-Emmett-Teller, Barrett-Joyner-Halenda equations with N₂/77K adsorption isotherms. The structural characteristics of PI-based ACFs were investigated using X-ray diffraction. Also, NO gas adsorption experiment was conducted in a tubular fixed bed reactor using ND-IR at room temperature.
As a result, the texture properties and structural characteristics of PI-based ACFs were influenced by the activation condition. The specific surface area and total pore volume of ACFs were observed 680-1480 m²/g and 0.28-1.37 cm³/g. The highest NO adsorption performance was observed for PI-20.
