Nowadays, the issue of human rights protection has remained unsolved as have been observed world news, the issue of human rights violation happens in everywhere around the world especially, the African states. For instance, Ethiopia is the member of the African Union recently face serious human rights violation about the detainees' rights. Since the detainees have challenged with torture and arbitrary detention, it is apparent that it is violated to their protection under the international human rights law.
This dissertation divided into 6 Chapters:
Chapter 1, "Introduction" will give a brief introduction to the topic; aim and objective of study; scope and research method.
Chapter 2, "General Overview of Detainees' Rights", describe in details about violation of human rights with respect to detainees' rights in Ethiopia. In addition, will illustrate the background of detainees' rights abuses. For instance, abuses and ill-treatment, torture and cruel, inhuman or degrading treatment and rights of fair trial.
Chapter 3, "Legal Framework of the Protection on detainee rights under International Human Rights Law", this chapter will talk about the international law instruments to protect the rights of detainees. The international human rights law that governs the rights of all humankind has Universal Declaration of Human Rights, International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights, Convention Against Torture and other Cruel, Inhuman or Degrading Treatment or Punishment, Convention for the Protection of all Persons from Enforced Disappearance, and so on. Moreover, it also provides the regional law, for example, African Charter on Human and People's Rights, and Special Rapporteur on Prisons and Conditions of Detention.
Chapter 4, "The Contextual Analysis of Detainee Rights in Ethiopia" will focus on causes and consequences of detainees in the country. This chapter will address the normative legal framework in Ethiopia and analyses its challenges as regards compliance with international and regional human rights standards.
Chapter 5, "The Further Improvement Detainee's Rights in Ethiopia" this chapter gives the recommendations to further the development on the Ethiopia government and also analysis criminal responsibility on the illegal abuse of detainees. Last but not least, Chapter 6 "Conclusion" which is the last chapter of the dissertation.
