Literature is expressing valuable contents in emotional language and the ambit that we may feel the beauty. Learners can express their thoughts through various activities based on understanding and appreciation for works and they can internalize desirable value of life by active communication with other people. But, education of poetic literature in actual education field, put priority to deliver knowledge by teachers and the class of acknowledging diversity of learners and enhancing thinking ability is not settled down. This research would like to suggest a direction to overcome this problem on poetic literature education.
Current school operates teaching and learning method based on the textbook, target and achievement standard pursuant to the contents of education process revised in 2015. Summary of characteristic of revised literature education direction is as follows. First, it improves teaching and learning method focusing on learner's participation and emphasizes various experience and activity through interaction with others. Second, it emphasizes practical aspect of Korean language education and intensifies reading education, so that it sets up the target of 'one book in a semester'. Third, it emphasizes self-directed learning by utilizing various data and information. Fourth, it expands evaluation focusing on process.
Therefore, future modern poetry education should be conducted in order that learners meditate the meaning of works through various literature-connected activities and raise imagination, creativity and writing ability on literature after internalizing. In addition, poetry education in school should be approached in various method and aspect. It is because one learning target and stereotyped teaching method shall not raise creativity, active appreciation ability and solution ability of learners.
The thing which should be the foundation of this teaching and learning design is learner's self-directed learning ability. That is to say, learners should set up their own learning targer pursuant to their own request and solve learning task rather than passive style due to teachers.
For this, this research set up a theory which can be the foundation of poetry education focusing on learners as 'self-directed learning' and applied it to modern poetry education.
In chapter I, this research reviewed and described the purpose of this research and preceding researches.
In chapter II, this research analyzed high school literature curriculum revised in 2015 in order to set up overall flow of poetry education and future direction.
In chapter III, this research analyzed characteristic and model of self-directed learning theory to be the basic foundation of learner-oriented poetry education and designed new self-directed poetry learning model by finding supplement points from analysis of existing poetry class model. This research prepared instructional plan for 3 times of classes with the poetry 'Nostalgia' written by Jeong Ji-Yong included in high school text based on the model of self-directed poetry learning. Among them, this research completed actual class instruction plan based on the 2nd class instructional plan and prepared plan of 'poetry education focusing on self-direct learners'.
In conclusion, this research summarized the contents of main point for self-directed learner-oriented poetry education and arranged the effect of self-directed learner-oriented poetry education. Finally, this research described limit of this research and proposal for follow-up researches.
In the future, I wish the contents of this research shall be applied to actual class and continuously reviewed and supplemented. So, I expect that learners shall encounter various works in the real education site and conduct literature activity in active attitude.
