The purpose of this study is to investigate the effects of education and trainingof hotel chefs on job satisfaction and organizational commitment.
To achieve such purpose, the study conducted theoretical study(composing factors of education and training, job satisfaction, organizational committment) and the quantitative research.
The survey was conducted from March 25th to April 10th, 2017. 250 questionnaires were distributed to the chefs of 10 selected five-star hotels in Seoul. 214 questionnaires were used for the analysis and research model was tested by SPSS Win 23.0 program in terms of frequency analysis, reliability analysis, factor analysis and regression analysis.
The major findings of the study are summarized as follows;
First, education and training of hotel chefs was composed of 4 sub-factors such as content of education and training program, quality of instructors, educational environment and attitude of trainees.
Second, job satisfaction of hotel chefs was composed of 2 sub-factors such as intrinsic job satisfaction and extrinsic job satisfaction.
Third, education and training(quality of instructors, educational environment, attitude of trainees) had positive effects on intrinsic and extrinsic job satisfaction. Otherwise the content of training programs had no effects on intrinsic and extrinsic job satisfaction.
Second, education and training(quality of instructors, educational environment, attitude of trainees) had positive effects on organizational commitment. Otherwise the content of training programs had no effects on organizational commitment.
Third, intrinsic and extrinsic job satisfaction of hotel chefs had positive effects on organizational commitment.
Based upon the results of analysis, it is necessary to develop systematic education and training programs for heightening job satisfaction and organizational commitment for hotel chefs. It should be carried out in consideration of their job condition and occupational requests in order to create great synergy to raise job satisfaction. Also it is important to induce interests in education and motivate trainees. In addition, to improve educational environment and enhance the quality of instructors is significant in increasing the effectiveness of education. Lastly, organizations should endeavor to achieve a working environment conducive to job satisfaction.
Future researchers have to study about education and training deeply and analyze accurate factors affecting job satisfaction and organizational commitment.
