This study is designed to find out the effect of the Phototherapy Program on the self-esteem level and life adjustment of prisoners.
The research was implemented to see the changes in following aspects.
1. Is there any improvement in self-esteem that prisoners feel after they take the Phototherapy Program?
2. Is there any change in life adjustment that prisoners feel after they take the Phototherapy Program?
Below is the method and group of participants the survey was carried on. A survey was given to 120 prisoners (male 90 and female 30) in four prisons. It was conducted based on: 1) the self-esteem level and 2) the current conditions with their life adjustment in prison. Results reflecting both aspects as being merely "average", leaving a vacuum for the need of developing a program.
Another survey was conducted to a group of 150 prison officers (male 107 and female 43) to find out the need for better life adjustment. And the result showed lack in the elements to help their life adjustment indicating a need for a program development.
Following up the program designed with the consideration of the result of the survey on both their need and current conditions, 10 male prisoners from S prisons were assigned as the control group and the other 10 male prisoners who have similar characteristics as the experiment group. In the pretesting, they showed not much difference in all lower category of both self esteem and life adjustment in prison but only similarities.
The method used in this program is pretest-posttest control group where both pretest and posttest were conducted upon those two groups : with one condition being different ; no program was applied into the control group and the Phototherapy was only applied into the experiment group.
The program is designed for biweekly meeting times running a total of 10 times. The frequency test was conveyed to see different sociodemographic characteristics of the survey takers, and Independent sample essay t - which is, to check equivalence between the control and experiment groups. analysis of covariance
Analysis of covariance were traced on the average and standard deviation, between pretest and posttest, to see the effect of Phototherapy program on self esteem level and life adjustment of prisoners. Statistics were provided using SPSS for win.22.0 program.
The result of the survey is as below:
1. People in the experiment group earned higher score in self-esteem than those of control group in posttest. It clearly shows that Phototherapy program has worked on the increase of self esteem of prisoners.
2. People in the experiment group earned higher score in life adjustment than those of control group in posttest. It clearly shows that Phototherapy program has worked on the increase of life adjustment of prisoners.
