This study examined facade image and components of buildings on the street of commercial and quasi-residential areas with the character, centrality and symbolism of residential district support within Suwan Housing Site Development District developed with the greatest scale in Gwangju since 2000 from the collective view and analyzed the influential relationship among facade image and components of commercial buildings on the street from visual view.
It also aimed to investigate how the district unit plan affected architectural design decision and urban landscape and provide basic materials for establishing more detailed and systematic direction for landscape management related to buildings on the street in commercial site.
Consequently, it was found that opening type of facade components of commercial buildings on the street should have unity and discrimination reflecting local identity, and for this, regulations of type, style and proportion of opening are needed, major colors of buildings must consider association between material characteristics and colors not color concept of current harmony and a variety of color harmony applying local colors not simplicity from gray color should be given.
It was also considered that solidity of facade, type of the first story and facade space should secure changes and clearance of facade through limitations of length and range of building facade and establishment of setback line and regulations of detailed use of the first and upper stories in spite of building with earnings from leasing. And in case of top and roof of buildings, application of mass concept by a fixed type not an ornamental concept should be induced and flat roof should be limited.
Finally, signboard should complement new additional standards of color, design and facade composition to the current ones of location and types of installation.
