Today, the problems related to young people, such as school violence and ostracism, have been emerged as serious social issues. It is also possible to see some students who don't regret their immoral behaviors. In the background, this work was intended to explore how care affects young people.
To achieve this purpose, this paper was set up to study issues as follows:
First, how does care affect the personal relationship of middle school students?
Secondly, how does care affect the school violence tolerance of middle school students?
The study subjects of this work were the 2nd grade students of three middle schools (one boy's middle school, one girls' middle school, and one coeducational middle school) located in Gwangyang city. This work sampled them by class. As a result, the sample students numbered 285, 143 of which were male middle school students, and 136 of which were female middle school students, and 3 of which were unidentified in terms of sex.
The survey tool of care used for this work was 31 questions used in 'care of Middle School Students: Factor Structure and Relevant Variables' studied by Soh-young Kim (2005). The test of personal relationship was based on the self-reporting test developed by Schein and Guerney to measure the changes in the ability of personal relationship, consisting of 25 questions. The actual test of personal relationship used for this work consisted of 23 questions which resulted from the adaptation of the Schein and Guerney's by Seon-moh Moon (1980) and from the reconstruction of it by Young-ho Park (2006). The school violence tolerance test was based on school violence scale developed by Rigby and Slee (1993). And, the actual test of the school violence tolerance used for this work consisted of 14 questions which resulted from the change of the Rigby and Slee's by Sang-gyun Lee (1999), from the use of it by Ye-seong Kim (2002) and He-jin Kim (2002), and from the reconstruction of it by Mi-gyeong Seoh (2007).
First, Cronbach's α was investigated to analyze the reliability of the measurement scale used for this study.
Secondly, descriptive statistics analysis was conducted to look into the general characteristics of each variable.
Thirdly, Independent Sample T-test was conducted to explore the mean difference of the variables measured according to sex.
Fourthly, Pearson correlation analysis was conducted to look into the directions of the variables measured in this work.
Fifthly, simple regression analysis was conducted to investigate how care affects the ability of personal relationship and school violence tolerance.
The conclusion drawn from the study result and discussion is presented as follows:
First, care affected the personal relationship of middle school students. The more they had care, the more they had positive personal relationship.
Secondly, care affected the school violence tolerance of middle school students. The more they had care, the lower the school violence tolerance became.
In conclusion, it was found that care closely affected the personal relationship and school violence tolerance of middle school students. If students come to have care, they are expected to improve the relationship with friends and help to prevent school violence.
To include care in school curriculum, it is necessary to develop the care program associated with curriculum or education of subjects.
