In the studies of classification of the degrees of forest fire damage, there is a statistical method of factor analysis and cluster analysis. This method, when extracting forest fire damage area leads to classification into many areas, compresses these areas into a smaller number of areas while minimizing the data loss of these areas. Using these compressed smaller number of areas, it becomes possible to classify the forest fire damage areas based on the degrees of damage.
As such, in this study, the forest fire damage area was classified without having to approach the forest fire damage area and by conducting a factor analysis and cluster analysis using only the LANDSAT TM image data; and afterwards, by conducting a factor analysis and cluster analysis with the damage area as target, it was possible to classify into the areas with strong damage from forest fire, intermediate damage areas and minor damage areas.
Therefore, it is deemed that this would be utilized usefully in determining the degrees of damage of the forest fire damage areas using satellite data without having to approach the forest fire damage area.
