While art education in the past was focused on unilateral injection of theoretical knowledge & practical skills, today's education considers students' enjoyment, achievement & interest in creative activities, etc. essential for cultivating self-learning. We are living in a modern information age. This means that contact with information is completely open. Thus, there is no doubt that creativity takes precedence over all others in the 21st century and that cultivating creative human resources turns out to be the most important educational challenge as the driving force of national development.
An easy way to approach creative art education is through expressive medium & techniques that can freely express students' thoughts & emotions. This method induces students to approach a more creative world by arousing brilliant imagination & interest. In other words, it is important to guide students to create & utilize expressions based on their own personality other than teaching them simply how to master techniques. By utilizing a variety of materials & techniques, expansion of free thinking that is the freedom of expression can be conducted. This cannot occur without creative thinking.
In this study, textile medium such as cloth, thread, han-ji, felt, wire, etc. had been used as well as various techniques such as joomchi, ji-seung, paper quilling, weaving, baskets, felt, dye, etc. for creative education. Specially, joomchi and ji-seung are korean traditional techniques.
Also, it aims to emphasize the necessity of research on expressive techniques and make art a part of life by enabling students to produce & complete commodities necessary in real life on their own.
This study examines the meaning of art education & creativity as well as teaching methods that can enhance creativity through creative art education. In addition, it aims to open a world of unlimited creativity by researching the concept & techniques of textile mediums among the expressive medium & techniques of art education. This study conducted a research on lesson guidance plans that applies textile mediums & techniques. Results are summarized as follows: 1. Provide personally meaningful opportunities. 2. Make students have a personal challenge. 3. Make students have confidence. 4. Make students work at their own pace. 5. Provide tasks that can be determined by the students. 6. Make students express personal emotions. 7. Provide an opportunity to develop self-assessment. 8. Satisfy the needs for power.
Second, this study explains the importance of expressive medium & techniques of art education and provides various techniques & materials of textile medium. This can be easily approached and students can confirm their possibility to express unlimited creativity by freely expressing personal feelings & thoughts through the application of these techniques & materials.
Third, this study provides creative guidance plans that applies textile mediums & techniques. Through the plan, it must provoke a wide range of thinking during lessons by providing instruction models of various materials & methods and must actively help students to experience various expressive activities by arousing interest & motivation necessary for learning.
This study proved that students could approach art with familiarity through lessons that applies textile mediums & techniques and could feel a sense of pride in their ethnic emotion. In addition, research on lessons & teaching-Elearning methods of a better textile medium & technique is continuously required due to the recognition of the necessity of creative education based on the hope that the teaching-learning guidance plan which applies textile medium & techniques can be at least a bit of help in creative art lessons.
