The Sijo is the most familiar Korean classical poetry which is correspond with Korean spirit and emotion. Sijo is unique traditional three-verse poetry and The Sijo is being composed these day. Sijo education is worth being placed a great deal in Korean literary education.
This research examines current condition of Sijo education focusing on a literature textbook of the 7th national curriculum for educational activities. I will find a new ways of Sijo education and it is prepare for the 2007 Revised Curriculum of Korean Language.
In the Chapter 1,it is to investigated a history of Sijo education studies. It is seperates 2 field, One is about 'Sijo', the other is about Sijo 'Teaching-Learning method'. As a result it is reveal shortage of Sijo education detailed methodology and practical studies.
In the Chapter 2,it is to analyze me Sijo in textbook, actual condition of Sijo teaching-learning. There are 15 pieces of Sijo in middle school Korean textbook, 7 pieces of Sijo in high school Korean textbook. And 126 pieces of Sijo are included in High school literature textbook. So it eventually draws the some problems. As problems of current condition, first, Sijo number being decreased gradually. Second, writer class was lean too much towards on Yangban(noble class).Third, Sijo's hierarchical order was not reasonable. fourth, conservative modern Sijo embodies in Korean language&literature textbook.
In the Chapter 3 investigated the specifics of improvement direction as based on the features as in Chapter 2. it is to analyze the actual condition of Sijo teaching-learning.The selection principle of Sijo in textbook:the period of composing Sijo, Sijo type, writer class, theme's diversity. The period of composing Sijo is center on the Joseon Dynasty. Because Sijo was a splendid that flourished in Joseon Dynasty. In order to solve this problem, I suggested that arranging Sijo stage by stage. and various theme attract to student's attention. In area of Sijo type, SaseolSijo is more free than PyeongSijo in aspect of meter. And a frank expression of writer's emotions and ideas. So SaseolSijo has a potential to attract student's interest and attention. above I argue to educate the knowledge education before student's independent acitivity. Because Knowledge education will be a foundation of self learning.
Such a suggestions shows a possibility as a new education environment in the flow of the recent education, which highlights the prominent shift from teacher-centered education to learner-centered education.
In Sijo education, above all students have to know accurate knowledge such as Sijo's origin, type, writer's class, theme, meter. Next students must be a independent appreciator and can write a Sijo. And I suggest to educate a Dialogue-centered teaching-Learning method and Response-centered teaching-Learning method that can be used in teaching Sijo.It can be learner-centered education. Because It draws a learner's poetical-thought.
Now Korean literary education have to change. According to 2007 Revised Curriculum of Korean Language. We are facing a transition period in education aspect right now. From now Sijo education will be make the class learner-centered because it has the charactistics of new curriculum.
The value of this study can be found in suggesting how to improve next curriculum for it's learning activities. In the following researches, a teaching-learning paradigm that is more conducive in classroom should be devised and established.
