This is the study about the yung-Kernneung, which are the royal tombs of the Joseon dynasty, based on Fengshiu. Yungneung is the tomb of Sado Crown Prince and his wife, and kernneung is the King Jung-Jo and his wife's. Constructing royal tombs is one of the most important national projects, investing all of the finances, labor force and time of the nation. It is based on Feng-shui which promotes the infinite development of Joseon dynasty through praying blessing of Fengshui to Select the dynasty's royal tombs sites.
This study is for investing how Fengshui principles were used when constructing the yung-Kernneung, and analysising the interrelation betwen yung-Kernneung and the descendent's fortune by adapting the theories of the topography(form) Fengshui and the atmospheric (compass) Fengshui. The following is the result of analyzing the construction of Yung-Kernneung in the view of Fengshui principles.
First of all, we are able to make certain of the truth of the matter that is reduced to riches and honors and meets with disasters in the direction of projecting bad tendency of the Universe even though there are enough strength of the earth. If the place has the terms of a propitious site for a grave in the view of the topography Fengshui but it doesn't fit the atmospheric Fengshui, a descendant may muddle through the bitters of life.
Secondly, Removing from first tomb to another place reflects the King Jung-Jo's purposes not only personal intention that tries to invoke praying blessing of Fengshui principles and dutiful to parents but also deep political intention that strengthens regal sway. Thirdly, we are able to confirm the fact which is evaluated differently in the view of the topography Fengshui according to the viewpoint of each person. Fourthly, Fengshui principles is used as political power because the great propitious site for a grave is judged differently according to the main agent who commands the power.
Overall, Fengshui is strategically used for administering a country. In the case of the atmospheric Fengshu, we are able to reach the same conclusion by evaluating the fortune with a tool called Paechul(Compass).
On the other hand, it is hard to conclude the fortune clearly because we have a tendency to evaluate subjectively through a sense organ like eyes. The topography and the atmospheric Fengshuis are inseparable and are the axes, supporting Fengshui principles. Therefore, there should be an effort to combine and systemize by combining two theories in order to make Fengshui more perfect.
