This thesis studied Park Ji-won's 「Estimate with empty mind」 written about how to read books. The purpose of this study is to look on ways that the author recognized true aspects of the world through empty mind. It intended to observe symbols would contain every single moment of live creatures.
It also analyzed structures and expressions constituted this account given to the his disciple, Lee Seo-gu. Compared to other works of the author, this account has never been the object of study, it was worthy of study.
「Estimate with empty mind」 is divided four parts, introduction, development, turn and conclusion. The introduction is indicating the problems of excessive erudition to change readers' attention to how to pursue learning.
Using a simile of searching man, the story is developed to range between eyes and subjects. It is necessary to secure critical ranges to grasp the point. In addition to get critical ranges, it turns to request to estimate with empty mind which concludes the title, 「Estimate with empty mind」.
It shows structural completion though it is short accounts. Using similes as to fish in the water, a person who looks for missing things in a room and converging sunlight, Park Ji-won approached even 『The book of Changes』 easily with those similes. The attitude to observe the world of Pohisi who was transmitted to create the system of letters has an analogy to that of Park Ji-won.
Park Ji -won warned against of overbearing knowledge or skimming through books. The short conversation with his disciple contained a practical critical mand. Wisdom from books could use to solve problems in reality.
