Future researchers call the 21st century the age of emotions. It is the meeting point of naturalist reason that predicted the dawn of a mind culture age and emotional aesthetics that go back to the original attitude of mankind. Emotional studies of man is a metaphysical question that goes beyond the world, about realization of eternity, the existence of objects as subjects of the mind, and abstract existence. Continuous pursuit of true nature is the original point of discussion of this study.
Man created a 'God who created man' to overcome the fundamental problem with no solution, death. This is the first God created by man, which started with primitive faith. Nevertheless, the remote fundamental problem made ancient people use their sorcery powers to create 'the appearance of a God.' We call this art. The first God is a God that 'exists,' and the second God is a God that is 'seen.' Ironically, latest technology made us create a third God. This is a 'live God' that is alive and moves in a virtual space. It is an object of mental activities and a result of imagination. We call it a 'spiritual existence' and define spiritual image as actual existence of this invisible existence.
This study is on expression methods of spiritual images as religious imaginations that appear in Film. Spiritual images created through imagination take form through an image and symbol system in a virtual space, and the purpose of this study was to examine what form the images take.
Documentary research and case studies of spiritual experiences and In-depth interview were examined to analyze videos that include spiritual images. As a result, the religious background to making spiritual images into farms and expressions of the forms were found to be the following.
First, spiritual images are largely divided into two categories. The image of a God as the absolute existence and source of supernatural power, and the image of spirit, meaning a supernatural being after death. Both are actual existences that are invisible and a result of mental activities, and are combined with the word, spirit. Second, the image of God is largely decided by important factors such as the bible and text and key words like natural, animals and plants and ancestors. It is an expansion of images that replay existing visible forms through metaphors or association by socio-cultural religious ceremonies and traditions of religions like Christianity, Buddhism and Confucianism. For example, there are images of the only God as a transcendental God, the pantheistc natural God, and the image of a half God and half human. The image of God is especially affected largely by religion, but generally includes light. Third, the image of a spirit cannot be presented scientifically because it is a form that includes religious factors, but it is a form with rules that follow a certain process. Most people who have had out of body experiences or experienced a spirit have the same opinions as case studies through interview. The characteristics are that they consist of a transparent substance like energy and the legs are generally not clear. They are also very light and fly around but can also move from one space to another in an instant, and while good spirits have a bright light, bad spirits have a dark light. They can freely change their form, but people are usually most afraid of them when they do.
However, the more important point is that they are seen as different forms according to the intention of the producer and the perspective of the audience. Needless to say the intention of the producer plays an important role in deciding the visual form, but the point to focus on is that they can appear differently according to a person's religious beliefs or belief in God. An invisible virtual image is expressed through religious imagination, but considering it is a spiritual image, what it is seen as is an important point. Yahweh or Buddha can be seen through the fire in "The Ten Commandments" and my own ancestor can be seen in the form of the ancestor God in "Mulan." Each person can converse with the natural God in their minds while watching the 8 million Gods in "The Spiriting Away" and if a person can meet a deceased family or friend through "Hanadashounennshi" it is almost as if a virtual image is jumping out of a virtual space to return to the real world.
The biggest strength of video media is that it can precisely materialize almost anything. Digital graphics, which can be seen as a brilliant achievement of cutting edge science in terms of Film, can create even more diverse forms of images. Therefore, a spiritual image is a virtual image, and is expressed in a virtual space called Film.
The attempt to combine science and religion is already actively being researched by distinguished medical researchers and brain researchers. It is the start of invisible mental activities newly reviving through combination with science. Abundant mental cultures can be achieved through cutting edge science in the 21st century age of emotions. Religion is a Doppelganger that cannot be separated from man. It is a relationship where the other cannot survive if one disappears. Meeting spiritual images as free reason of man through Film, which are a result of science as a material civilization, is ultimately a perfect combination of science and religion as a combination of virtual space and virtual image.
In the primitive religion, Shaman puts together alive people and dead people. The religion takes the role of a transcendentalist. Therefore in the present time of the intersection of scientific and emotional civillization, the study of spiritual existence expressed in films is one of the significant process of finding out the substantial solution throughout the films in relation with the original question of the mankind.
