As worldwide events have been held, the national hotel industry has developed into world class not only in scale but in service and management. In recent times, hotels in downtowns have functioned as the open community for cultural exchange, information exchange, sports and leisure, not to mention lodging, eating and drinking. The common area of a hotel thus emerged as the most attractive part of modern hotels playing the role of an intermediary for the entire hotel. Therefore it is true that accurate analysis and study of the common area in light of the fashion of the times is necessary. In particular, the common area of a hotel is a space which pIOneers the culture of the city where it is located and reflects the age of globalization, I will study and analyze the interior finishing materials which are critical in delivering the image of the hotel. I will suggest what types of interior finishing materials would be desirable in the future by analyzing the features and trends based on the understanding of what interior finishing materials are used for the common area of domestic hotels.
This study was focused on the period between the late 1960s and the late 1990s when the national hotel industry had been rapidly prosperous, especially on twenty hotels located in Seoul, Korean consideration of their developments and distribution. The study was performed on the basis of the previous studies and philosophical data, and their blueprints were analyzed concurrently spot investigations. The chapter 2 dealt with the configurations and functions of the public spaces of urban hotels. The chapter 3 dealt with the emotional expessions of pubric areas in city hotels, and the chapter 4 shows the results of case studies. Lastly, the chapter 5 presents the conclusion of this study.
