This report is about the teaching method of 'Dongmyung diary' printed on the latter half part of high school Korean textbook.
The last part of 'Dongmyung diary' is a chapter which observes the flow of the Korean language from the past for each period, and understanding the change and traits of the Korean language with means of texts which support them. Within that, the modern Korean language's unit part of this report plays a role of connecting medieval Korean with present Korean, and is evaluated to be a appropriate chapter to compare and study present Korean for learners living the present.
However, within the frame of classroom work, the teaching-learning of modern Korean showed a part where it did not flow smoothly. Due to lack of classroom time, the research of this report started by focusing on the classes which only conveyed fractional knowledge. As teachers and students as subjects, questionnaires related to classroom time was practiced, and as a result, it was concluded that prolonging of classroom time and input of supplement texts were necessary.
'Dongmyung diary' is a woman's work, is appropriate in showing the contemporary women's literature work activities, and easily conveys the essay literature from modern Korean. If class connects the contemporary period, deep understanding of the work is possible. Thus, we concluded that classroom time should be extended from 2.5 to 3, and supplement texts should be chosen and taught. The supplement text was Woo-am Song Si Yul's letter, in which the learner's role is left where he should read by the work himself, infer the context, and derive the relationship between the receiver and the sender. This is a part where the understanding of Korean knowledge learnt from 'Dongmyung diary' and application is deduced, Thus, the fact that it does not end in fragmental Korean knowledge memorization, but the understanding of the learnt knowledge and applying the ability to other texts is uniform with the objective of the 7th educational process.
The learners also feel the current education within the country, and wants deep understanding and application of ability in which they can apply it to the college entrance exam, so a mutually communicative class where it requires various participation from the learner should be practiced. I leave as the report's flaw the fact that it is not applied to the actual classroom, and hope that this helps in reflection of educational reality and learner's opinion.
