The purpose of this paper is to investigate the effect of early English teaching methods using English picture books and to suggest concrete and practical usage. This paper begins with an examination of theoretical background for language acquisition. According to the theory, the suitable time for English education is babyhood or preschool age. During this time, teaching English through English picture books is a very good and easy method for teaching young children. There are many advantages when using English picture books as English teaching materials. Second, young children can learn current and useful English expressions and about other nation's cultures through the vocabularies and the pictures in the books. Third, it helps children's emotional development and trains the artistic sense like the painting techniques and literary styles.
It is also important to choose good English picture books as well as to know the advantages. Books written with easy words and the pictures must be in harmony with their contents. Teachers and parents should choose the books considering the ages of their children, the characteristics of their growth.
After choosing the books, to make best use of them is very important. If teachers arouse children's curiosity before reading, they will have an interest in the books. After reading, if they do some activities in connection to the contents of the books, they can memorize the expressions and the vocabularies.
