This thesis is to know about the famous novel "Star's hometown" written in 1970's by writter Choi, Inho. Once "Star's hometown" was criticized for using inferior, common literature symbols, but these reputations came from prejudices. In this thesis, I set analyzing structures and knowing social meanings of the era of this novel as my goals.
I clarified the structure of this novel and found the structure of this novel is repetitional structure of happiness and unhappiness. About characters in a structure, KyongAh is in the process of destroying herself. In KyongAh's case, she had dreamed about marriage, but unexceptionally her broken dreams disappointed her. After analyzing a structural side, I also analyzed social meanings of "Star's hometown". First KyongAh's desire follows the ideology that society wants everybody to keep. KyongAh had wanted to marry, to have a family, and to come true these dreams by relying on a man. The dreams were broken and thrown away because of the loss of her purity and forces from the men.
I also tried to analyze this work from a character named MunOh. MunOh seemed to achieve his identity through KyongAh, but this achieved identity goes back to social rules as well, because MunOh was not different from having masculine sight to KyongAh, like others. Based on the situations of 1970s, the violence that men forced to KyongAh was the way of expressing their anger that was suppressed.
