The purpose of this research is to examine the difference in physical strength of over-weighted students who were majoring in athletics before and after their training activities and to verify the difference between training methods. For this research, the researcher selected 30 over-weighted male students who were attending athletics related department of Y University located in a city in Gyeonggi Province based on simple random sampling method. The groups of 10 selected students as samples were assigned to aerobics training, resistance training and composite training group respectively and all the groups conducted training activities for 8 week period on 4 times a week basis. Data were compiled through measuring physical strengths and body fats of the students before and after their training each time. SPSS V12.0 statistics program was used for data processing to calculate the averages and standard deviation of all data. For the verification of differences between the time point before and after the training within respective groups, Paired Samples t-test was conducted and Repeated Measure Analysis was conducted to verify the difference in the time points before and after the training between groups while using Bonfe rroni for post analysis. The analysis based on the level of significance for the verification of 5% showed the following results as conclusion:
1. Through the training of over-weighted students majoring in athletics for the period of 8 weeks, the items such as body backward bending, quickness and body fat rate out of the items of muscular strength, muscular endurance, heart-lung staying power, speed, explosive muscular strength except for the item of body forward bending out of flexibility items showed the statistically meaningful level of changes. Aerobics training out of training methods conducted showed the statistically meaningful level of changes in all physical strength items except for the items of body forward bending out of the items of explosive muscular power and flexibility. And resistance training showed the statistically meaningful level of changes in all physical strength items except for the items of body forward bending and body fat rate out of the items of explosive muscular power and flexibility, and composite training showed the statistically meaningful level of changes in all physical strength items as well as body fat rate.
2. As to the interaction effect for the group training and the repeated training for the period of 8 weeks, the items of speed (100m running) and body fat rate showed positive effect. As to main effects among the groups, composite training group showed more of the statistically meaningful level of changes compared to aerobics and resistance training groups in the area of body backward bending item. And the main effect for repeated training showed the statistically meaningful level of differences in the areas of muscular strength (abdominal strength and grasping power), muscular endurance (trunk extension backward, push-up, chin-up), heart-lung staying power (1609m running), speed (100m running), explosive muscular power (Sergeant Jump), flexibility (body backward bending), quickness (side step) and body fat rate.
The above conclusions can be summarized that the training for 8 weeks was judged to have made positive changes in most area of physical strength items as well as body fat rate, and composite training showed more effective changes in physical strength as compared to aerobics training and resistance training while composite training and aerobics training showed more effective changes in body fat rate compared to the case of resistance training.
