Wrapping cloth normally refers to a textile which is used for making an object outstanding by wrapping, covering or hiding the object. Tea wrapping cloth which is a type of wrapping cloth is a wrapper which mainly covers or wraps tools used in tea-making.
In the past, tea wrapping clothes were produced using the remnants of cloth sewing them as a patchwork. Often embroideries were put on by hand. Therefore, tea wrapping clothes has been handed down until today as a plain aesthetic sense of our female ancestors.
For the shape of tea wrapping clothes, size is fixed by connecting remnants of clothes and color, texture and balance are composed in harmonization within the fixed space. In the past, many tea wrapping clothes were manufactured based on the five colors red, blue, yellow, white and black. From a restricted point of view, tea wrapping clothes can be restricted to wrappers covering the tea dishes on a tea table but recently its functionality and artistic value are being re-evaluated in proportionate to the boom of tea making.
This research is a work of modeling using harmonized wrapping clothes as a classical material on doors, walls or spaces which need to be classically decorated applying classical design of tea wrapping clothes.
The clothes used were limited to raw silk directly woven with a loom after the extracted strings from a silkworm are half-done, ramie fabric and silk, the water was used after being cleaned by charcoal and only natural plant materials such as green tea, gold and silver, alder tree, asiaticum, indigo plant, comus officinalis, Chinese ink, lacquer, gardenia seeds, dried clove buds and oak tree were used as dyes.
In this research, work was produced having four seasons as the subject applying tea wrapping clothes. It has designed the design showed in the classics in a modern fashion and naturally died silk produced using a conventional type loom, hemp cloth and ramie fabric. In addition, it has departed from the original narrow sense of tea wrapping clothes and studied tea wrapping clothes which can be used in decorating doors, walls or other spaces. Through such study it has modelled in a modern way the classical beauty which connects the past and the future applying classical designs.
As above, this research attempts to expand the scope of tea wrapping clothes which can decorate our living areas by producing tea wrapping clothes which have decorative formative beauty through using it as a decorative sculpture with practical beauty which can be used together with tea flowers, tea scent and tea dishes in a tea room.
