본 연구에서는 우리나라 상장 제조 기업을 대상으로 CSR 수행이 기업의 재무적 제약에 미치는 영향을 분석하였다. 이를 위하여 국내 기업의 CSR성과 척도로 경제정의실천연합 산하의 경제정의연구소에서 제공하는 KEJI 지수를 이용하여 우수한 CSR 수행이 재무적 제약을 낮추는데 기여한다는 실증적 증거를 제시하였다. 본 연구에서는 Kaplan과 Zingales(1997)에 의해 고안된 KZ지수와 신용등급, 현금-현금흐름 민감도(Almeida, et al., 2004) 그리고 투자-현금흐름 민감도(Fazzari, et al., 1988)등 다양한 방법을 이용하여 재무적 제약을 측정하였다. 그리고 기업의 CSR성과는 KEJI의 7가지 평가항목을 이용하여 2개의 CSR성과 측정 대용치를 만들어 측정하였다. 분석 결과, KZ지수와 신용등급, 그리고 투자-현금흐름 민감도를 이용하여 재무적 제약을 측정할 때, CSR성과와 재무적 제약 사이에는 유의한 음의 관계가 있음을 보였다. 또한 주요독립변수의 잠재적 내생성 문제에 대한 대안으로 도구변수를 이용한 연립방정식 접근법으로 추가 분석을 실시한 결과, 질적으로 유사한 결과를 얻었다. 따라서 본 연구의 결과는 기업의 우수한 CSR 성과가 재무적 제약을 낮추는 데 효과가 있으며 이를 통하여 궁극적으로는 기업 가치를 증대시키는데 기여할 수 있다는 시사점을 제공한 것으로 간주할 수 있다.
