The integration of human rights principles into gender and development work has recently gained ground, especially among feminist activists in Asia. This seeks to ensure that State parties will ably comply with their obligations and commitments for full implementation of the gender equality measures inscribed in the Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination Against Women (CEDAW, 1979) and other international human rights covenants. I present in this paper the various approaches used by some countries and groups in the region in developing gender policies and programs through the use of the normative contents of human rights
