최근 하드디스크 드라이브는 경제적인 컴퓨터 메모리 장치로써 널리 사용되고 있다. 그러나 급격하게 증가하는 정보저장용량의 요구는 높은 데이터 접속률과 저소음, 그리고 낮은 비반복적 진동의 안전성을 갖춘 하드디스크 드라이브를 필요로 한다. 따라서 본 연구에서는 디스크의 진동을 감소시키기 위하여 고안된 에어댐퍼의 특성에 대하여 살펴보고 이를 더 발전시키기 위하여 임의의 형상에서 유체가 가진 비선형 동특성 계수를 구하는 방법을 제안하였다. 이를 위하여, 하드디스크 내에서 회전하는 디스크가 회전축에 수직한 방향으로 주어진 변위와 속도를 가지고 진동하는 조건에서 Navier-Stokes 식을 유체와 고체의 연동해석을 적용하여 풂으로써 하드디스크 공간 내의 압력분포를 계산하였다. Navier-Stokes 식을 푸는 데에는 전산유동해석 전용 소프트웨어가 사용되었으며, 하드디스크의 에어댐퍼에 분포하는 압력을 매 시간 적분함으로써 에어댐퍼에 작용하는 비정상 상태의 힘을 얻을 수 있었다. 한편, 비선형 동특성 계수와 비교하기 위하여 섭동법을 사용하여 Reynolds 식을 유한요소해석 방식으로 풂으로써 임의의 스러스트 베어링에서 유막이 가지는 강성계수와 감쇄계수를 구하였다. 본 연구에서는 하드디스크 드라이브 내의 에어댐퍼와 같이 러너와 베어링 사이의 유막이 두꺼운 상태에서 동특성 계수가 가지는 비선형성을 고려하여 강성 계수와 감쇄계수를 각각 러너의 변위와 속도에 따라 변하는 변수로 가정하여 최대 3차까지의 테일러 급수로 나타내었다. 하드디스크의 에어댐퍼가 가지는 동특성 계수를 구하는 방식은, 동일한 절차를 스러스트 베어링에 적용하여 기존의 섭동법과 매우 유사한 결과를 얻음으로써 검증하였다. 그리고 여러 가지 비선형 동특성 계수의 차수가 모사하는 힘을 비교함으로써 동특성 계수가 디스크 진동의 변위와 속도의 1차 식으로 묘사됨으로써 결과적으로 에어댐퍼에 작용하는 힘을 변위와 속도의 2차 다항식으로 나타내었을 때 전산유동해석으로 구한 힘과 가장 가까운 결과를 얻을 수 있었고, 따라서 간극이 큰 스러스트 베어링의 동특성 계수를 예측함에 있어서 러너의 변위와 속도에 대한 1차 식이 가장 적절함을 확인하였다.
한편, 현재 평판으로 제작된 에어댐퍼의 동특성 계수를 증가시킴으로써 디스크 진동저감 능력의 향상을 기대할 수 있도록 에어댐퍼에 헤링본 그루브를 적용한 후 동특성 계수를 수치적으로 계산하여 헤링본 그루브가 평판으로 제작된 에어댐퍼의 동특성 계수를 증가시킨다는 사실을 확인하였고, 모달 테스트를 통하여 실험 결과와 수치해석 결과가 잘 일치함을 확인하였다. 본 연구에서 제안한 동특성 계수를 구하는 방식은 고속으로 회전하는 터보기계와 같은 곳에서 동특성 계수의 비선형성을 고려한 회전체의 안전성 분석에 기여할 수 있을 것으로 기대된다.
