(Background and purpose)The establishment of community spaces for local residents is primarily aimed at promoting the sustainable development of the region through community revitalisation. However, current public spaces in Chinese communities face challenges such as low participation in activities, formal spatial design, and limited independence. Hence, this study aims to improve satisfaction with public spaces, encourage voluntary participation and promote community building. It aims to explore satisfaction factors in Chinese plazas based on community elements, and to suggest ways to improve satisfaction in modern Chinese urban plazas. (Methods) Firstly, through theoretical exploration, we emphasised the importance of understanding the interaction between individuals, plazas and communities, and highlighted the importance of community revitalisation. This led to the identification of keywords for structuring community spaces. Secondly, based on these keywords for community space components, a questionnaire was formulated and a survey was conducted to measure residents' satisfaction with the use of their space in a designated Chinese area. Thirdly, by using SPSS to perform exploratory factor analysis and regression analysis of the survey results, we identified influential factors that enhance satisfaction. This process involved investigating the relationship between community space elements and square satisfaction. Fourth, in order to improve the satisfaction of the square, the previously derived factors were prepared as basic survey data by applying the basic factors when reconstructing or redesigning the square. (Results) Firstly, based on the technical statistics, the order of importance was determined as follows: locality (3.43) 〉 social interaction (3.42) 〉 common solidarity (3.32). Secondly, the results of the correlation analysis showed a positive relationship between the community components and satisfaction with the square, with correlation coefficients ranging from R=0.381 to 0.856 (p〈0.001). Thirdly, the regression analysis results excluded inclusivity (0.132, p〉0.05) due to its statistically low relationship with the independent variables and satisfaction. Effective community factors positively influenced quadratic satisfaction with the following order of importance: satisfaction (0.285) 〉 efficiency (0.28) 〉 safety (0.206, p〈0.05), while the common bond factor was ranked as satisfaction (0.253) 〉 diversity (0.151) 〉 maintenance (0.141) (p〈0.05). (Conclusion) The significant findings of this study, which identified effective square satisfaction factors based on community elements, are significant. They suggest that people in the square experience an increased sense of stability in their personal living environment through social interactions, and contribute to community revitalisation by forming attachments to their residential area. By increasing the visibility of the square and encouraging greater participation, we aim to broaden our understanding and appreciation of this space. We also intend to investigate other factors that may help us to better measure satisfaction with the square in the future.
