This study examined the problem of memory recalled or forgotten in the process of accepting Naoki Watanabe’s Tanka Collection and Miya Shuji’s Sanxi Province which can be said to be classic of war tanka, as texts.
It was confirmed how the Tanka poems written by these two poets who participated in the Sino-Japanese War represented the war at the same time, and how the record was read through defeat in the war to the present was reviewed through representative thesis.
As a result, it was confirmed that the meaning of the experience contained in tanka poems was not fully examined, and all of them resulted in a comprehensive interpretation that "songs expressing anti-war ideology by reciting the cruelty of the battlefield". In particular, it was possible to point out the psychological mechanism of denial, defense, or avoidance and evasion in the interpretation of tankas that represent concrete harm.
Although the Tanka poems of Naoki and Shuji conveys not only the brutal experience of Japanese soldiers but also the blood-soaked atrocities, the reality is selectively reconstructed, leaving only appropriate memories as Japanese identity.
