In the case of juvenile delinquents with mental illness, there is a great deal of variation in the expression of symptoms, and they are often accompanied by temperamental characteristics of adolescence, so it is very important to connect with specialized medical institutions such as severe treatment facilities and private nursing hospitals, but even in this area, institutional connections are not being made smoothly. Moreover, there is a shortage of commissioned medical institutions such as hospitals or sanatoriums designated as Disposition No. 7 and a chronic shortage of medical personnel even in medical rehabilitation juvenile centers. Therefore, the problem of mentally ill juvenile delinquents should not be limited to juvenile crime and delinquency, but should be reconceptualized as a “child and adolescent welfare issue,” including mental health and addiction prevention.
In addition, considering the purpose of Korea's Juvenile Law, Disposition No. 7 should also serve as a concrete measure for the smooth social rehabilitation of juveniles. Therefore, this paper aims to promote the internalization of medical rehabilitation treatment in medical rehabilitation juvenile institutions by examining the current status of the imposition of Disposition No. 7 and the problems of medical rehabilitation treatment for medical rehabilitation juveniles.
