This study focuses on the errors made by Korean learners of Japanese in using the honorific expression “ごNounになる.” Analysis reveals that these errors are not influenced by the learners’ mother tongue but are attributed to issues found in textbooks. Furthermore, the study identified a lack of clear standards for correct noun usage, leading to uncertainty regarding the correctness of the noun among native Japanese speakers. Such uncertainty among native speakers will undoubtedly confuse learners of the language. The following educational suggestions are proposed to reduce the error rate among Korean learners of Japanese. Firstly, the distinction between “おVerbになる” and “ごNounになる” should be clarified. A comprehensive list of nouns suitable for this construction should also be provided. Lastly, teachers should be encouraged to enhance their professional knowledge and provide ample supplemental examples or practice questions.
