The primary purpose of this paper is to examine the aspects of authorship of Gusadang Kim Nak-Haeng reflected in his literary remains. Gusadang left a variety of literary works, including poem, funeral oration, letter, miscellaneous writing, script, and Jam writing, which imply earnest filial duty during his youth years, subsequent difficulties in life, and indomitable belief with no compromise due to adversities.
Chapter 2 has looked into how Gusadang justified and placated himself to live on while faced with harsh reality through 「Jikseokseol」and 「Gichiseohaeng」. What is certain about Gusadang here is that he compromised with reality and constantly sought reflective self-examination in order to sustain his falling pride. Chapter 3 has identified that a rigorous boundary line was drawn to distinguish the inside and outside of his academic inclination through 「Yeojokjetakiseo」and 「Nonggongseoljeungihakbo」. To him, the gwageo was some peripheral issue that could never overcome moral philosophy under any circumstances. Chapter 4 has looked into the life philosophy of Gusadang who pursued the life of Munjilbinbin that combined cause and substance through 「Yangjoldanggi」and 「Gaejaganbuseol」. His thought of trying to make his life aligned with cause is in line with the Zheng-Ming in Confucius’ philosophy of requiring the substance to be on a par with its name.
