본 연구의 목적은 초등학생의 미래와 현재에 대한 목표성향이 진로성숙도와 교과 성취도에 미치는 영향을 살펴보기 위한 것이다. 구체적으로 초등학생의 미래지향적 목표를 가족 지향적 목표, 사회 · 명성 지향적 목표, 부자 · 직업 지향적 목표로 측정하였고, 현재의 목표 성향으로는 4개의 성취목표지향성을 사용하였으며, 이들이 진로성숙도 및 교과 성취도에 미치는 효과를 탐색하였다. 연구대상은 G도 Y시에 소재하고 있는 3개 초등학교 6학년 학생 500명이며, SPSS PROCESS(Preacher & Hayes, 2004) 매크로를 사용하여 단계적 회귀분석을 실시하였고, 다중 매개효과를 추정하기 위하여 붓스트래핑 기법을 적용하였다. 연구 결과, 첫째, 가족, 사회 · 명성, 및 부자 · 직업 지향적 미래목표는 모두 진로성숙도에는 정적인 효과를 미쳤으나, 교과 성취도에는 가족 지향적 미래목표만이 통계적으로 유의한 정적효과를 보였다. 둘째, 가족, 사회 · 명성, 및 부자 · 직업 지향적 미래목표는 숙달 및 수행 접근의 성취목표지향성에는 정적인 효과를 미쳤으나, 회피 지향적 성취목표지향성에는 유의하지 않거나, 강도가 작은 정적인 효과를 보였다. 셋째, 미래지향적 목표는 성취목표지향성의 접근 지향적 목표 성향을 매개로 진로성숙도에 직, 간접 효과를 모두 나타내었다. 넷째, 미래지향적 목표는 성취목표지향성의 접근 지향적 목표 성향을 매개로 교과 성취도에 간접효과를 나타내었다. 다섯째, 미래목표지향성의 가족 지향적 목표 성향은 진로성숙도 및 교과 성취도 간의 관계에서 매개효과가 상대적으로 높은 것으로 나타났다. 본 연구 결과를 통하여, 초등학생의 미래지향적 목표 성향의 특성을 파악하고, 미래지향적 목표 각 하위변인이 진로성숙도와 교과 성취도에 직 · 간접적으로 미치는 상대적 영향력을 확인하였다. 이에 현 정부에서 강조하는 진로교육을 통한 행복교육 강화의 타당성과 초등학생의 미래지향적 목표 성향에 대한 추가적 연구의 필요성을 제안하였다.
