The aim of this research was to study the effects of elastic band and pilates exercise on atherosclerosis indices and inflammation related markers in elderly obese women. The subjects of this research were elderly obese women aged over 65 without any metabolic diseases and haven't had regular or vigorous physical activities. The subjects were divided into two groups; elastic band and pilates exercise group (16 subjects) and a non-exercise control group (16 subjects). The subjects in elastic band and pilates exercise group performed elastic band exercise at RPE 13-16 (10-12 repetions) of exercise intensity for 20 minutes and pilates exercise at RPE 10-13 (10-12 repetions) of exercise intensity for 20 minutes, 60 minutes a day for 3 days a week during 12 weeks. All subjects of this study were examined the changes in atherosclerosis indices and inflammation related markers. The results of the study in the elastic band and pilates exercise group were as follows; The TC/HDL-C, TG/HDL-C, LDL-C/HDL-C, Fibrinogen, and CRP had significantly decreased. It was concluded that elastic band and pilates exercise group had positive effects on atherosclerosis indices and inflammation related markers to in elderly obese women. Therefore, elastic bands and pilates exercises are effective in the management of vascular inflammation and obesity in elderly women, and this form of exercise is effective in preventing cardiovascular diseases.
