The purpose of this study was to examine the variables and standard of an (mental and physical) independent living scale geared toward backing up the independent living of adults with intellectual disabilities. Specifically, it's meant to explore what variables would affect the results of evaluation, what the scores of evaluatees mean and how their scores should be interpreted. The subjects in this study were 341 adults with intellectual disabilities who used facilities for the disabled across the nation. The collected data were analyzed by the statistical package 15.0. And the age of the disabled people, the grade of their disabilities and the type of facilities used by them were identified as the variables that affected their evaluation results. As for links between the grade of disabilities and cutoff scores in independent living, the cutoff score of those who had the first and second grade of disabilities was 187, and that of those who had the second and third grade of disabilities was 392. Concerning their median based on the cutoff scores, the median of the adults with the first grade of disabilities was 151, and that of those with the second grade of disabilities was 280. That of the adults with the third grade of disabilities was 436. And then four different levels of achievement were presented based on their median. The first was not to reach the basic level of training, and the second was to reach the basic level of training. The third was to reach the level of mastery, and the fourth was to reach the level of excellence. The four levels of achievement were identical to those of the NAEP. The findings of the study are expected to be of use to institutions that intend to utilize a scale when they provide independent living training for adults with intellectual disabilities.
