This study aims to understand the educational significance of internship by describing, analyzing and interpreting the experience of participating in an academic-industrial cooperation internship program by five female university students. The study sought to reveal through the voices of the female university students what they actually experienced in the internship. Focusing on the internship program experience rather than its impact or evaluation, the study investigated the significance of that experience and the process of understanding an organization from an educational perspective.
To achieve its aim, this study used the narrative inquiry, considered to be one of the best way(Clandinin & Connelly, 2000) to explore human experiences. The study results showed that the participants discovered through the internship experience 1) dream and fantasy, 2) petty work, 3) violent culture of organization dinner gathering, 4) faces of Janus, and 5) the status of non-permanent personnel. Based on this, internship was understood to be a process of experiencing 1) the world of organization, 2) the symbols of organization, and ) being a reserve organization member.
From the findings, this study discussed the implication of such internship for female university students, universities and organizations.
